Don't Sit Out
May 1, 2007
Last Saturday I was at a kid's birthday party at a skating rink with my young son! I usually sit out and watch like most of the other parents do. Always admiring the parents out on the ice having fun but, still comfy just watching. This time my son asked if I wanted to skate with him and I smiled with a spontaneous answer, Yes! Beyond the Bus Stop is always ringing in my ears! At first I felt awkward like I did in middle school at the roller rink. But, as I warmed up and saw my son smiling, I took off like an Olympic skater. Well, in my head I looked that good! I got into the moment, felt the ice under my skates, listened to the pop music playing in the background and imagined an arena full of people cheering me on. I skated around like it was the only moment that mattered in my life. Who knew a kid's party could be so much fun! My son was excited to see his mom as one of the parents on the ice not on the sidelines. We skated around together with not a worry in the world and holding hands a few times . I am so glad I did not sit this one out! It was exhilarating and joyful.
