Are you Ready to Take Action for Your Health and Fitness? If you want support and encouragement for your goals-- POST HERE!

This is from Rosemarie Miller!!

Hey ladies. Something I want to share with you.

I know some of you have read The Secret. Well, I've been really amazed by a little something related to that book and my last race.

You see, I TOLD myself about a week prior to the race "I am going to get third place in my age group." I never told anyone else. I said it to myself several times a day. I said it, and I forced myself to believe it. Sometimes, in order to do that, I had to repeat it over and over, either out loud or in my head.

Doubts creeped in. I even reverted to the 'Ah well, I am just going to approach this race with the objejctive of having FUN" a few times (especially when I learned about that intended 'beach start' and the 100 or so women in my wave.) But my goal, my belief in what I could do, was always underneath it all.

And I did it.

Now THAT, to me, is amazing. I never did finish the whole book, and I don't even know if I really have to but I do know this: I will employ this strategy with EVERYTHING I do from here on out.

And now on to lighter fare...

I had a TOTALLY AWESOME swim today!!!! I am still flying high!!! So you know I have been working on re-training my stroke. Well, just when that was coming along well and I was feeling confident and strong, ol' coach Bill throws me another monkey wrench: my hips are sinking. I'm not high enough on the water. Now, I need to focus on pushing my chest DOWN, actually swimming while pushing my upper body DOWN. This throws my whole stroke into disarray, once again. I've been working on this for two practices and today's session was no different. Except, now I get another to-do item: I'm not kicking correctly. I'm kicking more from the knee than from the hip. All the power in your kick is basically from your upper leg - glutes, quads and hamstrings. I'm not putting those muscles to use because I'm bending at the knee too much.

So today, I'm trying to swim DOWN and kick my entire leg. AND, we're doing sprints. My BRAIN was frying as I tried to get all the parts working correctly. And then, I GOT IT. IT clicked. I was on a 50 sprint and I. WAS. FLYING. ACROSS. THE. WATER. I felt it!! I could FEEL I was faster!! It was the coolest thing!!!!!!!!!!!

Not only did I have the personal satisfaction of knowing that I finally got it to work, but our coach stopped me at the end and said "YOU did a GREAT job today."

WAHOOOOOO!!!!!!! His compliments are rare and I really am in awe. Moments like that are what really get my motivation to skyrocket. If I didn't have to race to pick up Liam from school, I would have jumped right back in the pool then and there and done another 3000 meters.

So, moral of the story is BELIEVE IN YOURSELF and NEVER MAKE SUBSTITUTES FOR HARD WORK!!!

I know I already answered this on Beachbody, but again I wanted to say what a fabulous thrill of motivation you have given me with your journey throughout the Spring, Summer and now Fall with your determination to be your best.

Suzy

Thanks for setting up this thread on your own site.

Yesterday was Canadian Thanksgiving and my house will filled with Gratitude from top to bottom.

I tried a new recipe, which I don't usually do to spring at a full attendance dinner like Thanksgiving and I wanted to share it with you.

Parmesan Spinach Cakes

If you like spinach-cheese pie, try these simple but elegant-looking little spinach cakes.

4 servings, 2 spinach cakes each | Active Time: 15 minutes | Total Time: 40 minutes

Ingredients
12 ounces fresh spinach, (see Note)
1/2 cup part-skim ricotta cheese, or low-fat cottage cheese
1/2 cup finely shredded Parmesan cheese, plus more for garnish
2 large eggs, beaten
1 clove garlic, minced
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground pepper

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Preparation
Preheat oven to 400°F.
Pulse spinach in three batches in a food processor until finely chopped. Transfer to a medium bowl. Add ricotta (or cottage cheese), Parmesan, eggs, garlic, salt and pepper; stir to combine.
Coat 8 cups of the muffin pan with cooking spray. Divide the spinach mixture among the 8 cups (they will be very full).
Bake the spinach cakes until set, about 20 minutes. Let stand in the pan for 5 minutes. Loosen the edges with a knife and turn out onto a clean cutting board or large plate. Serve warm, sprinkled with more Parmesan, if desired.

Exchanges: 1 vegetable, 1 1/2 medium-fat meat

Tips & Notes
Make Ahead Tip: Equipment: Muffin pan with 12 (1/2-cup) muffin cups
Note: Baby spinach is immature or young spinach—it's harvested earlier than large-leaved mature spinach. We like the sturdy texture of mature spinach in cooked dishes and serve tender, mild-flavored baby spinach raw or lightly wilted. Baby and mature spinach can be used interchangeably in these recipes (yields may vary slightly); be sure to remove the tough stems from mature spinach before using.
Weights & Measures
10 ounces trimmed mature spinach=about 10 cups raw
10 ounces baby spinach=about 8 cups raw

I made a double recipe to accomodate the gang and everyone loved them. I also used grated parmesan instead of shredded and it still turned out fabulous.

This recipe comes from Eatingwell.com

Laura
Hey ladies! Thanks for the warm fuzzy feedback Sherrie - (-: We are all going to have fun times in the coming weeks actually meeting face to face!

Laura - WOA woman!! Killer recipe!! I am totally digging it. I'm going to add this to the menu for our Halloween bash. I just finished HAND making 20 invitations... UGH. If you ever get the idea that making your own party invitations is a good idea - think TWICE! Yikes, what a boatload of work, time and money! It wasn't cheap to get everything printed. Oh well, I hope everyone likes their little pumpkins with pull out tops!! Thank you Martha Stewart.

I have swim practice tomorrow... Ooooo, this is BAD!! I am not feeling like going! I don't know what's the matter with me!! Sheesh!! I am going to chalk it up to the two-day allergy attack I've been battling. It's going to take mucho willpower to get my sorry self to the pool tomorrow. But you know what? I AM GOING. There. I said it. Now I have to go.

It might not be the best swim I'll ever do, but I will go!!!!
And you absolutely know Rosemarie that once your body hits that water, you will be in your element. You might just be drained from the whole party invitation work.

You will get in that water and wonder how you could have tried to give yourself an excuse not to go. I am holding you accountable woman! :D

Wahoo=====I feel the love!! I am thrilled you all came over here for our thread---I am hoping it will be ALOT EASIER to stay in touch ! Plus, I am going to invite the other women on this site to join us! I still need everyone's support to stay fit and healthy----that need will never change!
THANK YOU for being here!!!
Oh--That is me and Tony from last weekend----he came to Philly for a fitness camp. I needed my booty kicked----and he did just that! I look a little too cozy don't I? lololol
Oh... I love that picture of you and Tony. I'm mixing in some P90X to my routine and I'm on my second week and already noticing results. I'm finding it a great solution as I'm trying to break through a plateau. I love P90X and I am so greatful for it! It amazes me everytime I commit to it...the results speak for themselves.
RoseMarie, this is inspirational! Thank you for sharing! I myself have been eating right and workingout, but seeing no results. I am going to keep at it. I just got down on the floor and did 15 crunches and 5 push-ups to remotivate me.

Christy
Hi Christy---I often think what we view 'as results' and what really are 'results' can be very different things.....As women we want to SEE results but, forget if we are FEELING results. Are you feeling stronger, empowered, confident and in control of your health?

Tony said this weekend== 5 to 6 days a week for change--- and if we are changing it up--results will follow long term/lifelong------ It cracks me up when he says---if you are doing only 3 days a week you might as well throw yourself down a flight of stairs....LOL That is extreme thinking---But, heck 5-6 days a week seems to work.

This is a great place to all stay connected and inspire one another!
Suzy

What a great picture of you and Tony. I am envious that you are able to do this traveling around to be in such close contact with the inspirational BB team.

Christy

My name is Laura and I know Suzy and Rosemarie from "The H.O.T. and Extreme Team" from starting Chalene Johnson's ChaLEAN Extreme program back in January. I am 57 and was 56 when I started this program and for sure I had my doubts about whether I did the right thing ordering it, never mind actually taking action and doing it.

I didn't see much change in the first month and certainly not like the changes that were being posted, but I continued onto the next Phase. Again, I was able to see some differences, but not changes that were being made by the girls posting their before and after pictures, yet, others were able to see changes in myself that I didn't even notice until they pointed them out.

By the time I finished the last month changes had been made that I myself could not only see, but feel and had a record of.

I truly do believe we are so self-critical of ourselves that we always tend to stray to find the faults in ourselves instead of actually finding the good immediately and this was when the lightbulb moment went off. That was exactly what I had been doing for so many years. I was always comparing myself, competing with others instead of forgetting about others and truly concentrating on the changes for the good I was making for myself.

The tape measure is now my friend because it tells the most accurate truth of all and when things start to slip, because they do when I am not 100% on the ball, then I chalk it up to being human and work harder to stay totally committed to my health so I can live a better quality of life.

I find this time of year is when we all need encouragement and bootay kicking and accountability more then ever because Fall arrives and the mind and body seem to slow down with the lack of sunlight in the sky, just like bears getting ready to hibernate. Committing, scheduling and having an accountability partner is what keeps us all on track.

Take your measurements, take your before pictures, pull out your day planner and schedule your workouts for minimum of 5 days a week for a minimum of 30 minutes a day and hop on board "The H.O.T. and Extreme Team" so we can all stay accountable as Hallowe'en approaches, then your Thanksgiving (I just had mine on Monday here in Canada), then the Festive Season that depending on your ethnic background can last up to the middle of January! The time to start moving is now, not the New Year, so good stuff being inspired by the ever inspirational Rosemarie and doing those crunches and pushups.
